Biography
Shafiq graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor's of Science in Physiotherapy. He began his career as a physiotherapist in Toronto working at various private practices throughout the GTA. During this time, Shafiq worked to further his professional development through post-graduate courses in manual therapy, sports physiotherapy, and acupuncture. In 1997, Shafiq and fellow physiotherapist William Arvanitis founded Athlete's Care Sports Medicine Centres, with the first location in the Yonge & Eglinton area of Toronto, at 2401 Yonge Street. After opening a number of locations utilizing the model of high quality, inter-disciplinary care Shafiq decided to return to school to pursue a Masters in Business Administration through the Athabasca University Centre for Innovative Management.
Today, Shafiq continues to remain an active member of the Orthopedic, Private Practice, and Sports divisions of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. He is also actively involved with helping to create models fostering mentorship and continuous professional development of Athlete's Care practitioners.
